As a plumbing industry professional, you likely cringe when you see what others are doing to their pipes. Just yesterday we had to call in a professional (with an electric snake) to fix a clog in our kitchen sink and bathroom. He had to make two visits because it was so bad. Sadly, we REALLY “should know better”.
If you have a garbage disposal in your home, do you stop and think what trash may be harming your appliance and your pipes? Among the most harmful are:
- Bones
- Banana peelings
- Coffee grounds
- Egg shells
- Fruit pits (peach pits, etc.
- Grease
- Nut shells
- Potato peelings and any parts of potatoes
- Oil of any kind
- Pasta
- Shellfish
Surprisingly tough veggie like celery, artichokes, onion skins, corn husks and other fibrous food If you have thrown something down your disposal that isn’t on this list, send us an email, we’d love to add it to our list.
