Making the Switch to Lead Free: It's the Law
Prepare Your Business for Lead Free
Effective January 4, 2014, the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (Federally mandated Public Law 111-380) requires all pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings, and fixtures sold or installed in the United States for use in a potable water system to be lead free as defined by the statute.
Lead free means:
- a) not containing more than 0.20% lead when used with respect to solder and flux; and
- b) not more than a weighted average of 0.25% lead when used with respect to wetted surfaces of pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fixtures, and fixtures.
In short, as of the effective date, the law states that all potable plumbing products that do not meet the specified lead free requirements are illegal and cannot be sold or installed anywhere within the United States, which is why Matco-Norca is here to support you in every way we can.
